Dear Friends,
Michael Patrick Bishop Jr. is a combat veteran, cybersecurity professional, author, musician, and
nationally broadcast radio host known to audiences as DJ Cyber Sentinel.
Before his military service, Bishop developed a foundation of discipline and competitive drive as a multi-sport athlete. He competed in swimming, baseball, and soccer, earning recognition in competitive leagues and establishing the work ethic that would define his career.
In May 2001, he enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman, later serving as an Indirect Fire Infantryman (11C). During his service, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, operating in Kuwait and Iraq. His combat experience earned him the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.
Over the course of his military career, Bishop rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving in leadership roles that included Squad Leader, Fire Direction Center operations, and Recruiting and Retention Team Leader. He also served as an instructor within the Army National Guard, helping develop and train soldiers through multiple leadership and instructional programs.
He completed extensive military training, including Air Assault School, Warrior Leaders Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Basic Instructor Course, and Small Group Instructor Course. He also completed SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) High Risk Level C training, one of the military’s most demanding survival programs.
Further advancing his career, Bishop was selected for the Warrant Officer program, completing Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) and beginning the Aviation Warrant Officer pipeline, including Dunker training and aviation survival preparation. These selections reflect a high level of trust, leadership potential, and technical capability.
In addition to his operational and leadership roles, he served as an ARNG Honors Funeral Trainer, ensuring precision and dignity in military honors ceremonies, and contributed to the development of programs within the Georgia Army National Guard that continue to operate today, leaving a lasting institutional impact.
His decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Assault Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, and multiple additional service and professional recognition awards.
Following his military service, Bishop transitioned into the field of cybersecurity, where he built over a decade of experience in network defense, threat analysis, and digital security. He holds industry-recognized certifications including Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), CompTIA Security+, and CompTIA Network+.
Alongside his technical career, he has pursued creative work as a storyteller and artist, publishing music, children’s books, and comics, blending creativity with real-world experience.
Today, he is known as DJ Cyber Sentinel, a nationally broadcast radio host who brings together music, commentary, and community. His platform reflects a unique combination of combat experience, technical expertise, and creative expression, delivering a message centered on awareness, resilience, and connection.
His mission is clear: To inform, inspire, and remind others to stay aware in an ever-changing world. And as he reminds his audience at the end of every broadcast: “Stay vigilant, my friends.”
